April Community Meeting: Defund Hate this season of liberation

Description

*Registration for this event has been closed*

Join Bend the Arc: Jewish Action Long Island for our monthly community meeting! This month we are gathering to learn and take action on the Defund Hate campaign.

As we enter this season of liberation and gather with friends and family to tell the Passover story, we are thinking about the liberation needed across our immigration system. That is why we’re holding this month’s community meeting in conjunction with an Interfaith Day of Action for Defund Hate. Defund Hate is a campaign led by a national coalition committed to divestment from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and investment in thriving communities. Our Long Island chapter has been active on this campaign since 2018 and many of you have joined us for lobby visits, rallies, teach-ins and more.

At this meeting we will learn why we are calling to divest from ICE and CBP and instead invest in immigrant communities. We’ll discuss where we are in negotiating the next federal budget, what opportunities we have to influence our members of Congress to ensure this budget is a moral document which reflects our values,  and take action together in support of this campaign!
