In Nassau County, we’re working alongside the FREEnewyork coalition for crucial criminal justice reforms to end New York’s jail crisis, because no one deserves to sit in jail for being poor.
Since January, we’ve lobbied our legislators, attended a lobby day in Albany, mobilized phone calls, and delivered our petition with over 450 signatures to Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan and Governor Cuomo to say: Jews demand an end to New York’s jail crisis.
While the Governor and legislature failed to pass the bold reforms directly impacted communities need, our coalition built grassroots power to successfully defeat harmful proposals — and we’re going to continue lobbying to make sure we pass groundbreaking bail, speedy trial, and discovery reform.
