Join Bend the Arc: Jewish Action Long Island for a Jewish Teach-in on Parole Justice!

For the last year, we have been proud members of the People's Campaign for Parole Justice, led by Release Aging People in Prison (RAPP). Thousands of New Yorkers are serving brutally long prison terms as a result of our state’s draconian sentencing laws rooted in white supremacy and a parole release process plagued by racial bias that is designed to punish and re-sentence rather than acknowledge change and transformation. That's why our coalition is fighting for the passage of two crucial bills: Elder Parole and Fair & Timely Parole, to transform our parole process and help decarcerate NY's prisons.

Last year, our coalition built incredible momentum, but our bills were not passed by the NY Legislature — so we are gearing up to build the power we need to win in 2022!

Join our teach-in as a first step to learn about why we need to transform New York's parole system, how our current parole system is rooted in white supremacy, and how we can change it. At the event, we will:

*Screen "The Interview", a powerful 20-minute documentary about New York's parole system

*Hear from incredible speakers including Daryl Tolbert, a formerly incarcerated Long Islander and member of Release Aging People in Prison, Serena Liguori, Executive Director of New Hour for Women and Children, and Carol Shapiro, former New York Parole Board Member and advocate for criminal justice reforms

*Explore the connection between Jewish values and the need for parole justice

*Share opportunities to plug into our organizing on this issue!
