Textbank for Criminal Justice Reform

RSVP

Description

Join Bend the Arc: Riverdale for an evening of learning and action about the key pre-trial reforms that would help end mass incarceration in New York.

First, we'll learn about the #Freenewyork campaign, which is calling for a major reform of NY's justice system through:

Bail legislation that results in a vast decrease in the number of people incarcerated pretrial, an end to wealth- and race-based jailing and strong due process protections;

Discovery legislation that overhauls New York's archaic "blindfold" law and ensures that people have early, open and automatic access to all of the evidence in their case; and

Speedy trial legislation that guarantees that New Yorkers do not languish in jail - or with unresolved cases - for months or years on end as they await their day in court.

Then, we'll take action by texting voters in key state senate districts, inviting them to make calls of support to their legislators.

You'll need to bring a laptop or tablet to participate in peer-to-peer texting.
